Apparently the Peregrines are the fastest animal in the world - when they swoop, they can reach speeds of over 200 miles an hour. Luckily they slow down a little during nesting season, and are relatively easy to spot at Malham, thanks to the team of volunteers who help visitors to use the telescopes and spot the Peregrines as well as other birds such as Kestrels and Woodpeckers. There's always great excitement when they arrive back in Malham and then later when they start to fledge. I like that almost every development is tweeted - sort of appropriate?!
I wonder how many people have got into birdwatching as a result of the Malham Peregrine Project over the years? It's been quite successful, with over 60 young raised since 1993.
