What farmers do is a mystery to most, or knowledge is based on a few episodes of James Herriot seen many years ago.
Open Farm Sunday is designed to change that, giving members of the public an opportunity to meet farmers and learn more about what they do. There have been many TV programmes about food and farming - this is your chance to get up close with animals and ask questions.
Activities on each farm vary, but may include sheep shearing, chances to feed livestock, and see some of the farm machinery in use. A number of farms in and around the Yorkshire Dales are taking part including the Thornton Berry's who run Wensleydale Experience in Swinithwaite, Birchfield Farm in Summerbridge, Gam Farm Rare Breeds near Grassington, and Toft Gate Farm by Coldstones Cut near Pateley Bridge
