If I was to tell you about a place where you can enjoy around 50 high quality music and arts events in more than 26 venues, you would be forgiven for thinking I'd randomly decided to write about a cosmopolitan city. But I haven't. All this takes place between 25th May and 8th June as part of the award-winning, annual Swaledale Festival.
Since it was founded in 1972, the event has grown in both popularity and range. It's an incredible collection of events, offering residents and visitors to Swaledale, Wensleydale and Arkengarthdale a chance to enjoy some remarkable performances, exhibitions and walking events.

Concerts include classical music, folk, jazz, world music and of course, brass bands. There are also film, dance, comedy, drama and poetry performances, as well as plenty of workshops, exhibitions, talks and themed guided walks. Swaledale Festival never forgets its location, celebrating the wonderful scenery and stories of the Yorkshire Dales.
Some of the events would be at home in a London concert venue, whereas others feel more down to earth and homegrown. Along with the quality of the programming, it's this range that makes the festival so popular, with venues ranging from tiny Dales chapels with fewer than 60 spaces, to Tennants Garden Rooms with seating for 600. An unusual feature of the Festival is that acclaimed performers take their shows to community venues such as schools and nursing homes as well as better known locations. Local talent is nurtured, alongside performers from all over the world.
Running alongside the exhibitions and performances is an imaginative programme of guided walks, showcasing the beauty, history and geology of Swaledale, Arkengarthdale and Wensleydale. The whole event is supported by an army of volunteers, who collectively won a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
