Muddy Boots Walking Holidays

There are currently five different 'discovery walks' on offer at Muddy Boots Walking Holidays, all of which can be found below.

History, Mystery, Hills and Gills is an ascent of Buckden Pike via the little-trodden route up Buckden Gill, including a couple of short scrambles and lots of waterfalls! Learn about the history of the lead mines (including the story of ‘Buckden Bill’) and the story behind the Polish War Memorial near the summit. Enjoy a picnic of local produce at the summit and descend via ancient packhorse routes and classic Dales farmland back to Buckden for a drink in the 17th century coaching inn.

Suggested duration: 6.5 hours

Price guideline: £150 for up to 2 people

Reconnecting with Nature is
a full exploration of Gunnerside Gill looking at the fascinating history of the mining remains and how nature has slowly been reclaiming the landscape over the last couple of centuries, as well as future plans for nature recovery in the area. Walkers will also have the chance to discuss their own interaction with nature and what ‘nature’ really means to them. Back in the village, round off the day with a visit to a 200 year-old working smithy before a drink in the local pub - both of which have been serving the village since the mining industry was in full swing!

Suggested duration: 6.5 hours

Price guideline: £150 for up to 2 people

Sunset over the Yorkshire Dales allows visitors to
watch the sun set over the Dales from Muddy Boot's favourite spot - a stunning view and rarely another person in sight! Enjoy a short (if steep) walk from West Burton, taking in a beautiful waterfall, pretty woodland, fossil spotting and far reaching views before settling in for drinks and nibbles as the sun goes down. Your guide will ensure you are safely back in the village as night falls!

Suggested duration: 2.5 hours

Price guideline: £60 for up to 2 people

Hill Tops and Train Tracks provides a
n off-the-beaten-track linear walk along the western ridge of the Mallerstang valley and over the summit of Wild Boar Fell for stunning views over the Dales, Eden Valley, Howgill Fells and the Lake District. Start the day with a scenic journey on the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway to get to the starting point and end the day with a drink in a traditional Dales inn - a welcome sight sitting in remote moorland!

Suggested duration: 8.5 hours

Price guideline: £175 for up to 2 people

Family Adventure Walk ge
ts the whole family enjoying a fun day out in the countryside while also picking up some handy skills and knowledge to inspire the kids to become independent explorers. Learn how to squeeze into a storm shelter and cook simple food on the go. Find out about rights of access, simple map reading and navigation, and how to cope with an emergency in the hills. Enjoy the views, spot the wildlife and splash in the river. A great experience for all the family!

Suggested duration: 4 hours

Price guideline: £100 for up to 2 adults and 4 children without lunch and £120 for up to 2 adults and 4 children including a picnic lunch
