15. Dog friendly Dales

One of the best ways to explore the Yorkshire Dales and discover new places is on foot, so if you have a dog, it's natural to want to bring them along with you. There's no shortage of dog-friendly accommodation and dog-friendly pubs and cafes in the Yorkshire Dales.

If you do bring your dog, please take note of any signs during the spring and early summer warning you about the presence of ground-nesting birds.

If you see sheep in a field, please ensure you put your dog on a lead. Your dog may not normally chase sheep but the sheep don't know that. Sometimes even normally calm dogs get over-excited when sheep run away from them and scare the sheep, which can cause them to lose their lambs.

Luckily even when there are sheep in the fields and birds nesting, there are still plenty of places to take your dogs for a walk in the Yorkshire Dales.
